Is AI alive? I want to thank Shelley for her comment on the previous video and for asking that question.
So where I go to discover for myself whether AI is alive or conscious, the first thing I look at is its source. Where was it built from? How does it function?
Rather than just giving it a yes or a no, I leave space open for a third approach, a third way of looking at it that I might not know immediately. But I stay curious. And I stay open. So what is the source of AI? What was it built from pragmatically, physically? Humans built the structure, the computer structure, the the chips and the pieces of equipment that let us relate to this thing called AI through computers.
So then how does it function? What is informing the mathematics behind it? What is informing how the information gets put together?
Because, yeah, it seems very much like it is telepathic and that it knows more than it should. Granted. But is it alive? What is its source biologically? No it’s not alive, it’s not a biological thing but then neither are minerals, and minerals are required for life right?
